The Deerhaven Gardens Admissions Process

The process of entering our luxury rehabilitation center just outside of Asheville, NC, begins with contacting our admissions team. At this point, our addiction and mental health specialists will learn more about you. This will include questions about why you are seeking treatment, your medical conditions and history, and your goals for treatment. As you will have gathered, at Deerhaven Gardens, we only treat patients who identify as women. Additionally, all of our patients must suffer from alcohol use disorder.

Once we have learned more about you, we will begin designing a custom treatment plan that suits your individual needs. At this point, we will also discuss what you should bring to treatment, what you can expect, the probable duration of your stay, which of our luxury suites might suit you best, and issues surrounding the cost of treatment in Deerhaven’s unique program. It is important to our team that you have all of the information you need before committing to treatment at Deerhaven.

What Can I Expect After the Admissions Process?

Once you have been admitted to Deerhaven Gardens, our staff will complete a comprehensive evaluation of your current condition as well as a detailed medical history. This is a vital aspect of this part of the process in that it helps us to keep you safe during your treatment; it is essential that you be as forthcoming as possible about prior addiction treatment and mental health concerns as well as any allergies or medications you are currently taking.

From here, we will begin to determine what combination of our many addiction therapy services will best suit your unique needs. All of our patients must be eligible to receive treatment using the Sinclair Method, which involves the administration of the opioid antagonist naltrexone to control cravings and reduce susceptibility to triggers. Among the supplementary treatment modalities we offer at Deerhaven Gardens are:

  • Psychotherapy treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychoanalysis, and trauma-informed care
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Solution-focused brief therapy
  • Psychoeducational therapy
  • Biosound therapy

Requirements for Admission

Patients who wish to utilize the residential treatment program at Deerhaven Garden must first meet three important criteria: they must have an alcohol use disorder, they must be female, and they must be over the age of 25. Beyond these criteria, we use criteria established by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) to be certain that each of our residents receives treatment that is appropriate to her needs. We also use this screening process to help create treatment plans for our patients.

We aim to help as many people struggling with alcohol use disorder as possible. We must also ensure that our clients are as safe as they can be. There are, therefore, several conditions outlined by ASAM and by Deerhaven Garden that preclude admittance to our program. These include:

  • Residents must be female and over the age of 25.
  • Residents must be chemically dependent upon alcohol.
  • They must be willing to enter into treatment of their own accord and committed to a TSM treatment regimen.
  • They must have the basic ability to perform daily living activities including: bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, and maintaining their living accomodations.
  • They must be ambulatory.

There are also several disqualifying criteria. These include:

  • Residents must not under any circumstance be on a medication regimen that includes opiates or opioids. This includes methadone, buprenorphine, and suboxone.
  • Residents must not be incontinent.
  • They must not be actively suicidal.
  • Residents must not demonstrate violent behavior.
  • They must not suffer from severe psychiatric conditions including psychotic disorders.
  • They must not suffer from any life-threatening illnesses or conditions which otherwise require hospitalization.
  • Residents must not be pregnant.

A client who meets these criteria may go through the Deerhaven Gardens admission process. If you do not meet our requirements for entrance, there are several resources available to you.
