Summary

The Therapist is part of the Clinical Services and follows the clients’ progress from a therapeutic standpoint from admittance to discharge, while keeping the Clinical and Facility Directors informed on any issues/problems with any clients. The focus of this position is friendly, congenial and outgoing communication skills with emphasis on interacting with individuals at all levels in an organization comfortably. This role requires a very empathetic communicator, someone who is able to reach and stimulate others while being aware of and responsive to their needs and interests. This position requires involvement with some repetitive work, particularly repeat and long-term contact and communication with people.

Essential Functions

  • Managing a maximum caseload census of 6 clients in a residential setting
  • Responsible for individual and group therapy sessions to discuss effective coping skills and assist clients with problems related to their addiction and mental health
  • Conducts weekly individual client therapy sessions, develops and monitors the implementation of individualized treatment plans and is available to solve any pertinent issues
  • Collaborates with treatment team comprised of clinical staff, including the Clinical Director, Medical Director, Facility Director, and treatment milieu
  • Crisis Intervention; recognizing emotional stress and utilizing resources to resolve problems
  • Identify clients’ triggers, traumas, and automatic thought patterns by working 1:1 with each
    client; asking personal questions and monitoring their actions
  • Responsible for conducting family therapy sessions, between clients’ and their family, loved
    ones, or immediate support system; as deemed clinically appropriate
  • Demonstrate an understanding of patient care through charting and documenting resident progress, and provide service referrals when needed
  • Maintain professional relationships with the staff, residents, families, and visitors
  • Working with clients on:
    • Psychoeducational sessions specific to The Sinclair Method (TSM)
    • Medication adherence/compliance
    • Relapse prevention
    • Coping skills
    • Relationship development and intimacy issues
    • Grief and Loss
    • Family conflicts and parenting issues
    • Couples and family therapy
    • Establishment and repairing self-esteem
    • Anger management
    • Techniques for coping with triggers, emotional and/or substance abuse related
    • Work through past traumatic issues
    • Co-occurring MH/SA Dx related issues

Qualifications/Requirements

Preferred

  • Professional experience incorporating the Sinclair Method into practice
  • Personal experience utilizing the Sinclair Method in recovery
  • 5 years’ experience while board certified
  • Dually licensed in the state of North Carolina to provide mental health treatment as a full non-restricted LCSW/LCMHC/MFT
  • Experience with DBT, Somatic Experiencing, and Experiential modalities
  • Experience with trauma and eating disorders
  • Experience with Crisis/Risk Management
  • Experience in alcohol specific addiction treatment
  • Experience working in a residential setting
  • Experience working with female gender specific programs
  • Knowledge of dual diagnosis treatment practices including non-pharmacological symptom management techniques
  • Knowledge of treatment and referral community in North Carolina
  • Advanced knowledge of community support systems including 12-step AA/NA, refuge recovery, smart recovery, and celebrate recovery and their application in residential treatment
  • Advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, discharge planning and excellent documentation skills

Minimum

  • To ensure clients’ rehabilitation is supported in the women-only alcohol addiction treatment environment, Deerhaven Gardens will employ at least one female and one male Therapist and/or Clinical Director consistent with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
  • Completion of a master’s degree in Human Services or related field
  • Credentialed in the state of North Carolina as a full, non-restricted Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) through the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB)
  • 2 years’ experience while board certified
  • Basic clinical understanding of the Sinclair Method
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Current TB test clearance
  • Current background check clearance
  • Knowledge of treatment and referral community in North Carolina
  • Advanced knowledge of community support systems including 12-step AA/NA, refuge recovery, smart recovery, and celebrate recovery and their application in residential treatment
  • Advanced knowledge of current therapeutic techniques as they relate to the Substance Abuse space
  • Other duties as required
